Installing a Patio for Your Garden

If you're looking for a way to make your garden even more functional than it already is, you have probably already thought of the idea of creating a patio. A paved space outdoors you can use for dining, sunbathing, barbecuing or really anything you might want to do while in your backyard.

Where to put it

Choosing the placement for the patio isn't always easy. It really comes down to what you intend to use it for. If it's intended as a dining area and nothing else, it might be an idea to place it close to the house, so that it's easy to carry plates in and out of the house. If you intend it to be a quiet place for sunbathing or recreation, you might have to consider other factors, like privacy or which spot in your yard that has the most sun. It's also a question of where it would look the most aesthetically pleasing, which is all up to you.

Make it suit your needs

There's really no limitation when it comes to the looks of the patio. It can be whatever shape you want it to be. Square, round, oval – it doesn't really matter. What's important is that what you find fits best with your garden and your house. A small garden, for example, might benefit the most with a square patio since it makes the best use of the space given. When thinking about the shape, it's also important to consider what material you want for your patio. There are also many options here. Concrete is an inexpensive material that is easy to work with, but maybe you would rather have the rustic charm of natural stone, or you have a certain colour in mind that would go well with your house where you have to look into other sorts of paving.

Make it personal

Once you've decided on the basic appearance of the patio, there are still things to consider. If you have a sloping garden, it might be an idea to add more than one level to the patio for an original, interesting look. To make it look even more personal, as an extension of yourself and your house, there are many ways to go. You can plant flowers around it, decorate it with old furniture you have no room for in your house or install lightning around it, making it fully accessible also at night. The possibilities are endless, which makes it all that much easier for you to create your own personal space exactly as you would want it.

About Me

Painting, Decorating and Gardening

Yo! My name is Craig and in this blog, I plan to pass on my top tips to anyone who is thinking about giving their home and garden some love and attention. I will be the first to admit that in the past, I haven't always been as kind to my home and garden as I should have been. I used to throw wild parties and the place would get trashed. However, now that I am 32, I have decided I need to be more grown up about these things. I called in a team of contractors who really made the place look great. While they worked, I picked up some great ideas and advice.
